Beginner’s Green Smoothie

September 16, 2014 by Claiborne Ashby

This is the first green smoothie recipe I ever made. It’s so simple to put together, I used it with only slight variations for months after I bought my blender in 2013. It’s the one the blender salesman gave me. No supplements, no fancy milks, no …

September 16, 2014 by Claiborne Ashby

It’s just like taking a nice, long soak in the tub. Sort of. Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, is the Japanese practice of basking in the woods for improved health and well-being. It sounds ancient, but it was developed by Japan’s Forest …

5 Common Houseplants That Purify Your Air

September 16, 2014 by Claiborne Ashby

The common houseplant doesn’t appear to be doing much of anything—it just sits there looking pretty. Pick any houseplant and stare at it all day long. You might see its leaves wave in the breeze as the air conditioning cranks up. You could …

A dolphin for my niece’s 8th birthday. She likes A dolphin for my niece’s 8th birthday. She likes *lots* of animals, but her favorites mostly start with ‘p’ — puppy, panda, penguin, and of course, dolphin (porpoise?) 🎉

This was inspired by a fish drawing she made for me during the pandemic. She described it as a place where everyone is happy 🥲💗

My sister asked me to make an animal for her birth My sister asked me to make an animal for her birthday. I picked hummingbird. She told me her favorite color combination - orange + blue-green. The result, I think, is a tiny message of joy. ~May she find joy in unexpected places 🧡

P.S. There is an actual species of hummingbird that wears rainbow colors. O to V from tail to head 🤩

This is the most inspiring and inspired climate ch This is the most inspiring and inspired climate change discussion I've ever read. According to the author, it's completely doable to restore our climate to pre-industrial CO2 levels by 2050. (Of course, we need to reach net zero emissions, too.) The plan he lays out makes a lot of sense *and* seems to respect the Earth.

“People often ask me why I’m so confident that we can restore the climate. I tell them, “Because it’s been done before.” Nature has removed massive amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere 10 times in the last million years, and likely many more times before then.” - Peter Fiekowsky, Climate Restoration

I’m feeling a renewed sense of optimism for the future. You can find more discussion on my blog. Link is in my profile.

Check out the book and see what you think.
