This little series of acrylic paintings is a meditation on balance and an experiment. It’s based on a symbol I’ve used for several years as a reminder:
Wisdom flows from balance.
The extremes of life are dramatic. They grab our attention and keep us captivated. Giving in to them is easy. Keeping the extremes in check is the challenge. When we hold life in a state of balance, we allow ourselves to hear the voice of wisdom rising from within.
The paintings were a way for me to pay deeper attention to the message.
On a more practical level, I wanted to make something that was repeatable so I could test out different papers and framing styles. I decided on heavy-weight watercolor paper for all of them. I made a few versions so I can test out different framing styles. What do they look like with no border and floated in the frame? What about with a border but framed with no mat?
I’m going to send a couple off for framing. Then I’ll have new reminders of balance to spread around. And an understanding of framing options for future paintings.
