My hair stylist asked me to make a feather for her new hair studio. She wanted black on white and said it could have grey or brown, or even a pop of color. Basically, she left it up to me and said she wanted me to have fun making it. Feathers are a symbol of courage for her.
I chose the eagle feather as inspiration for courage and wound up using all the colors she mentioned!
It was an interesting project for me creatively. When she asked, I considered telling her no. I’d never drawn a feather like that before and didn’t know at that moment how I would do it. But then I remembered that somewhere in the far reaches of my mind, I had been wanting to make a feather anyway. Also, I liked that feathers have special meaning for her.
So, I decided to trust myself to sort it all out and said yes.
And sure enough, as I started testing out ideas, I realized there was only one way this feather wanted to come out of me. I just went with it, and the rest was about refining colors and design.
Turns out this feather is about courage for me, too.
