Beginner’s Green Smoothie

September 16, 2014 by Claiborne Ashby

This is the first green smoothie recipe I ever made. It’s so simple to put together, I used it with only slight variations for months after I bought my blender in 2013. It’s the one the blender salesman gave me. No supplements, no fancy milks, no exotic greens, just the basics — spinach (or kale), fruit, water, and a sliver of lime.

Perfect for beginners — easy to make and easy to remember.

Beginner’s Green Smoothie Recipe

Serves 1 or 2

Ingredients

1 or 2 large handfuls of baby spinach and/or kale
1 banana (or 1/2 avocado)
1 orange
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 sliver of lime, with peel
1/4-1 cup water*
2 oz honey, agave, or other sweetener of choice**
Ice to chill (if using fresh pineapple)

Notes: *Use closer to 1 cup water if adding avocado. **I like stevia as a sweetener these days — it’s herbal and won’t raise your blood sugar. Make sure you buy it with as few additives as possible. It only takes a drop or two to sweeten.

Directions

Peel fruit and rinse greens. Load blender — water first, frozen fruit last, everything else in between.
