“I Don’t Know”

January 10, 2023 by Claiborne Ashby

A friend said this to me recently with such conviction it made my heart sink. “I don’t know” is never true, but it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more you say it, the more you push the answers away.  If she had said, “I don’t want to know,” …

Finding Peace

October 19, 2022 by Claiborne Ashby

Have you ever known someone who made a practice of complaining? I have. He could gripe about anything. And consequently, he found a lot to gripe about. I don’t think he even knew he was doing it. Finding fault is a habit. So is finding peace. Being …

Do You Want World Peace?

October 17, 2022 by Claiborne Ashby

It can be maddening to wait for world leaders to decide peace is the only sane way forward. So, a reminder: World peace is not something they decide for us. World peace is something we choose every day, minute, and second. Commit to your own inner …

Look Where You Want to Go

September 19, 2022 by Claiborne Ashby

When you’re learning to ride a horse, and you start moving faster than a walk, your instinct is to look down. You want to see the horse, your legs, and the ground in front of you. For some reason you feel safe that way.  I suppose there is some …

The Butterfly Effect — Your Seemingly Small Actions Do Matter

July 20, 2022 by Claiborne Ashby

Do you ever spend too much time following the news and start to feel completely demotivated? That’s been me over the last month or so. It looks like the world is falling apart, so who cares what I do — does any of it matter? Ugh. What a disempowered …

Why Aren’t We All Wanting to Be Babaji?

May 16, 2022 by Claiborne Ashby

Autobiography of a Yogi is a powerful book. It’s a modern day account of the spiritual masters of India, written by someone who is himself considered a spiritual master of India.  Yogananda could have chosen to share his stories as allegories or …

Follow Your Own Path

March 2, 2022 by Claiborne Ashby

You can’t really follow someone else’s path through life, certainly not step for step. But a part of us always wants to try. “Other people, in whatever context they are found, are a tough place in which to find yourself and discover your own path. In …

The Gift of Troubled Times

February 16, 2022 by Claiborne Ashby

These are undoubtedly troubled times.  A pandemic combined with social unrest, unsavory politics, and extreme weather — the personal turmoil seems acute because we’re all going through this at the same time. But the truth is, even without a …

A dolphin for my niece’s 8th birthday. She likes A dolphin for my niece’s 8th birthday. She likes *lots* of animals, but her favorites mostly start with ‘p’ — puppy, panda, penguin, and of course, dolphin (porpoise?) 🎉

This was inspired by a fish drawing she made for me during the pandemic. She described it as a place where everyone is happy 🥲💗

My sister asked me to make an animal for her birth My sister asked me to make an animal for her birthday. I picked hummingbird. She told me her favorite color combination - orange + blue-green. The result, I think, is a tiny message of joy. ~May she find joy in unexpected places 🧡

P.S. There is an actual species of hummingbird that wears rainbow colors. O to V from tail to head 🤩

This is the most inspiring and inspired climate ch This is the most inspiring and inspired climate change discussion I've ever read. According to the author, it's completely doable to restore our climate to pre-industrial CO2 levels by 2050. (Of course, we need to reach net zero emissions, too.) The plan he lays out makes a lot of sense *and* seems to respect the Earth.

“People often ask me why I’m so confident that we can restore the climate. I tell them, “Because it’s been done before.” Nature has removed massive amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere 10 times in the last million years, and likely many more times before then.” - Peter Fiekowsky, Climate Restoration

I’m feeling a renewed sense of optimism for the future. You can find more discussion on my blog. Link is in my profile.

Check out the book and see what you think.
